At the dawn of time, the Cyclades Islands were named after the heavenly shape of the “circle,” known as KYKLOS in the Greek language. These mysterious lands formed a sacred circle around the divine island of Delos, the birthplace of the god of luminescence, Apollo. Apollo’s mother, Leto, sought refuge in which to give birth to her children. It was on a small floating island, swaying at the whim of the winds, that Leto found the safe shelter of nature. In her desperation, Leto made a solemn promise to the wandering island: if she allowed her children to be born there, they would honor her and raise her to eternal fame. And so it was that Artemis came first into the world, followed by the resplendent Apollo. When the luminous Apollo emerged into the world, his divine light flooded the vast Aegean Sea. Caught by a heavenly flame, the other islands came together, forming a magical circle around the sacred island which, from that moment on, was called Delos, a place visible to all beings. The surrounding islands, in recognition of this divine event, adopted the name of Cyclades and became one of the most exclusive and magical wedding destinations the world has ever known.
